Learning Brooke is a school for early childhood serving infants-PreK in Cranston, RI. We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and the RIE Approach. We believe children have a right to a respectful, inspiring and nurturing environment where each is able to explore and discover themselves while building relationships with materials, peers and adults. We have a strong connection to nature which is evident in our selections of furnishings, materials and outdoor spaces we have curated over the past 17 years. At Learning Brooke, the curriculum evolves and emerges as the children develop. This reveals their inner interests and theories about the world. In addition, we consistently document and display each Learning Brooke Explorer’s journey through photos, written and art samples, recorded narratives and transcribed conversations. For the children, this reinforces the fact that their work is truly worthwhile — while allowing them to revisit their learning processes and expand on their knowledge. It also helps to build community among the children — creating a climate of acceptance and respect for their thoughts, feelings and ideas. In early childhood education, there’s a real difference between entertaining a child and engaging a child. Blending various aspects from proven approaches, our philosophy is designed to help “bring out” each child’s natural questions, investigations and theories — while guiding Learning Brooke Explorers to become lifelong learners.
