In the Video Game Music Ensemble, students will use their creativity and musical skills to translate video game music to a live band environment. Ever wonder how your favorite Mega Man boss themes would sound as a heavy metal medley? Or maybe how the Super Mario 3 theme would work as an old timey jazz tune? Or maybe the song is perfect as is-anything is possible here. Aside from building a unique and challenging repertoire, students will have the option to work on improvisation, arranging, and even reharmonization. The overall difficulty of the class will be customized to the students in each group, but some minimum prerequisites will apply:
Experience:
-
Minimum 1 year of study on your instrument with a private instructor
Reading Level (guitarists/keyboardists/bassists/woodwinds/brass):
-
Understanding of basic rhythms and syncopations: dotted quarter notes, 16th notes, triplets etc. (if you are a guitarist who only reads tabs, you still need to understand these rhythms)
-
Ability to read moderately difficult melodies in basic key signatures (C, F, Bb, G D)
-
Keyboardists/Guitarists: Basic knowledge of minor and major chords
