The Golden Age of Asteroid Studies
The last 35 years has been the golden age of asteroid research. Numerous bodies have been studied and samples have been returned from three near-Earth asteroids. Thomas will discuss some of the most recent accomplishments in asteroid science in this talk.
Thomas Burbine is the Director of the Williston Observatory at Mount Holyoke College. Thomas has a PhD from MIT and won the 2020 Chambliss Astronomical Writing Award from the American Astronomical Society for his book Asteroids: Astronomical and Geological Bodies. He specializes in determining the mineralogies of asteroids using meteorites as a guide.
