Sott'Acqua – A Tale of Two Cities Underwater Festival - At Grace Episcopal Church in Providence - Downtown Providence Park Network
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 11/17/2024
From November 9-17, 2024, Splendor of Florence, in partnership with the Downtown Providence Parks Network, presents Sott'Acqua: A Tale of Two Cities Underwater, a week-long festival celebrating the renewal of a 25-year-old Friendship Pact between Providence, Rhode Island, and Florence, Italy. This festival will explore the historical resilience of both cities following devastating floods—Providence in 1954 and Florence in 1966—and reflect on today's urgent climate challenges.
Through a series of free programs and events, including interactive tours, educational activities, art exhibitions, lectures, and performances, Sott'Acqua tells the story of two cities that, despite being worlds apart, share a common experience of survival, renewal, and the power of community action in the face of natural disasters. Blending art, music, science, and history, this festival aims to raise awareness of global climate change and its local impacts while celebrating urban resilience.
