Reading Buddies

Is your child in a reading slump? Would you like your child to be more confident in reading? Bring them to Reading Buddies at Weaver Library! Our adult volunteers from the community - recruited and trained by youth services librarians - are here to listen to your child practice reading one-on-one and help them through any hiccups. Building fluency and vocabulary by reading high interest books and playing word games will help bridge the gap between learning to read and reading to learn which becomes more important as middle school approaches. Offering a non-judgmental space to read aloud can help build confidence and fluency.
This drop-in program is intended for children 7-10 and happens at Weaver Library every Tuesday from 4:00pm-6:00pm starting January 7th. There will be volunteers ready to listen to your child read for at least 20 minutes, with the option for more time if there are no other children waiting. If all volunteers are busy when your child arrives, there will be reading games available to play.
