Magical Mystery Book Club

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/06/2021
This book club gives your child the best of both worlds. RITES multisensory, high-quality, academic classes in the morning and anything-but-ordinary camp activities in the afternoon! The Magical Mystery Book Club is a great way to engage your reluctant reader over the summer. In particular, participants will be immersed in projects about an exciting mystery story while they practice their reading skills.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Book Club members will start the day with some pre-reading activities before delving into each chapter of the novel. They will engage in hands-on, in-person activities to reinforce concepts, improve comprehension, and bring the story to life. Every day, they will finish their book club meeting and head back to “traditional,” but more-fun-than-one-kid-can-possibly-have camp activities for the rest of the day. Best of all? With the outdoor Wheeler Seekonk campus as the setting, their heads can linger in the clouds for a bit, while their feet take them through acres of camp fun and activities!

The Magical Mystery Book Club is designed for middle schoolers, reading at about a 5th or 6th-grade level. It is intended for anyone who would like to improve their reading fluency and get more out of what they read.

Located just minutes from the East Side of Providence, the campsite offers plenty of enjoyable outdoor space for learning in nature while maintaining COVID-19 safe practices, including:

  • Stable pods of no more than 8 teens
  • Low teacher/student ratio of 1:8, with teaching assistants for even smaller groups
  • Large, newly built classrooms to spread out for portions of the instruction time and inclement weather
  • Properly ventilated classrooms, including HEPA filtration systems for state-of-the-art air purification and safe circulation
  • Easy access to plenty of dedicated outdoor learning station space, separate from the ongoing traditional campers and activities
  • Seamless transition to afternoon camp activities while staying in a stable pod
  • Continual mask-wearing, hand-washing, and regular sanitizing of used areas, with ongoing modifications in accordance with updated CDC guidance
  • On-site nurse throughout the program
