Japanese Stories, Songs & Craft w/ Chiho Desmond

Join us for a special storytime with RI local Chiho Desmond. She will be leading a Japanese culture experience for ages 0-6, including stories, songs, and a craft.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The topic of the day will be Setsubun (節分), which is a Japanese festival celebrating the end of winter and beginning of spring that takes place this year on February 3rd. Setsubun is celebrated with a bean-throwing ritual to ward off evil spirits and bring in good luck. People throw beans while shouting, "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" which means "Demons out! Good luck in!" Kids will learn about this festival and participate in their own slightly altered version of bean-throwing.
