*The event has already taken place on this date: Thu, 04/11/2024
Join Coggeshall Farm for a Homeschool Day! Homeschool day has a rotating series of programs and workshops geared for ages 4+ that bring the historic world to life. This program is for advance sign-up only and includes the cost of admission. It also features a variety of self-guided activities for all ages.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Session 1: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Feathered Friends (Ages 5-6)
Welcome, chicken lovers! Join us as we talk about our new baby chicks on the farm. Enjoy story time before we go and see newly hatched chicks. Learn how the mother chickens build their nests. At the end of the program, you can make your own chick and bring it home with you to care for.
Food Chains on the Farm (Ages 7+)
Let’s take a look at the food chains around the farm! We’ll look at how and what different animals eat to maintain a healthy ecosystem. Students will get to see physical models of animal teeth and get a chance to feed our animal friends on the farm. We’ll also learn how these animals helped out in the past and how it might be different today!
Candle Making (Ages 10+)
In a day and age without modern electricity, candles would have played a very important role during the 18th century. In this class, you will learn how to make your own candles using historic methods. You can even take them home with you!
Session 2: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Three Little Piglets (Ages 5-6)
Oink oink! Calling all pigs lovers! Here at Coggeshall Farm, we have some pigs that play an important role in managing the land. Learn all about how useful pigs were in the 18th century in this hands-on experience. You can even take home your own pig puppet!
Spring Gardening (Ages 7-9)
After a long and cold winter, help us bring our garden back to life. Join us as we prep an entire garden bed, doing all the work we need to do to get it ready for the growing season. This will include turning the soil, adding compost, planting seeds, and more. Take home your own plant to nurture at home from seed to harvest.
Binding, Marking, and Stamping (Ages 10+)
Have you ever wanted to make your own books and bookmarks? Join us while we learn how important books are to history, even on farms. Together, we’ll bind our own booklets, design our own tin bookmarks, and even learn how to make some wax letter stamps!
