Homeschool day has a rotating series of programs and workshops geared for ages 4+ that bring the historic world to life. This program is for advanced sign-up only and includes the cost of admission. It also features a variety of self-guided activities for all ages.
Session 1: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. ($10 per participant)
Pickling Party (Ages 10+)
Calling all young culinary explorers! Join us for a delightful adventure in the kitchen where we’ll try our hand at pickling. Discover the fascinating history behind pickling and learn how to transform ordinary vegetables into sweet, savory, and spicy delights.
BREAK: 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Try out some historic games in between classes in the Coggeshall Work Yard! Free for all class participants. (This will be an independent activity not led by an instructor; pre-registration not required).
Session 2: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. ($10 per participant)
Magical Beans (Ages 4+)
Head into the garden to harvest one of our favorite crops-beans! In the 18th century, beans were an important food that could be stored and used in the winter months when fresh food was harder to find. In this program, we will harvest some beans and take a look inside at the baby budding plants that are ready to grow for the next season.
*A parent or guardian must stay with their child through this program.
Dirty Jobs! (Ages 7+)
Join us on the farm as we get down and dirty doing some farm chores! Come take an up-close-and-personal look at the fun and icky side of farm life as you participate in animal care, composting, garden work, and more. Come prepared for bugs, mud, and dirt!
*Participants are required to wear closed-toed shoes for this program. Boots are recommended.
Painting with Petals (Ages 10+)
A famous artist once said, “Art is the flower.” That’s TRUE! Join us on the farm to learn how to make watercolor paints using flowers and other natural pigments from our farm! Express yourself by making your very own art with farm-fresh ingredients!
