Discover the fascinating process of transforming flax plants into linen for summer clothing and rope. See flax growing on the farm and learn expert cultivation tips. Join us for a fun, hands-on day exploring how fibers are made!

Learn about the amazing process of turning the flax plant into the fiber that was used to make linen clothes, rope and more! See the beautiful flax plant growing on the farm and learn how to grow the plants in the proper way to get the best fiber. Activities include: going through the process of retting the plants to loosen the fibers from the stalks, using a flax break replica to remove unwanted husks, watching as CFM staff pull the fibers through the sharp hackles, and feeling the soft results of the process! It will be a fun day to learn about the work involved in making the cooler clothes for summer!
