SUMMER CAMP - Franklin Park Zoo - Boston, MA

Looking to go a little wild during summer break? Zoo New England offers the perfect opportunity to learn about amazing wildlife while having a blast. We offer summer programs for children ages 6 through 13.

ZooCamp is open to campers ages 6-11 and will feature a curriculum of animal, science and conservation-based games and activities. The one-week sessions will also include a daily live animal encounter as well as weekly behind-the-scenes experiences at the Zoo. Please refer to the 2020 ZooCamp Handbook for more information about daily schedules and what to expect at ZooCamp!

Zoo Camp Weekly Themes (ages 6-11):

  • Zoo Explorers (Sessions 1 & 5) – Exploration is all about self-discovery and adventure. Your child will get too see the zoo’s many exhibits and interact with a wide variety of species!
  • Nature Detectives (Sessions 2 & 6) - Are you ready to solve a mystery? We'll focus on animals that sneak around their habitat and disguise themselves in the wild. 
  • Animal Engineers (Sessions 3 & 7) - Animals are amazing designers and engineers. During this session we'll study several animal techniques and try them out for ourselves!
  • Conservation Heroes (Sessions 4 & 8) – Is your child passionate about protecting threatened species? Campers will learn about current conservation initiatives through a variety of games, activities, and animal presentations.

Junior ZooKeeping Program (ages 12-13 years old): The Junior Zookeeping program will be offered for ages 12-13 years old in 3, two-week sessions. Junior Zookeepers will have the opportunity to shadow zookeepers in our different animal and behind-the-scenes areas. This program will also include a more challenging curriculum and hands-on experiences to give the Junior Zookeepers a feel for what it is like to have a profession in zoo or in an animal and science related field.

Session 3: Animal Engineers - July 6 – July 10
Session 4: Conservation Heroes - July 13 – July 17
Session 5: Zoo Explorers - July 20 – July 24
Session 6: Nature Detectives - July 27 – July 31
Session 7: Animal Engineers - August 3 – August 7
Session 8: Conservation Heroes - August 10 – August 14

2020 Junior Zookeeping Sessions (ages 12-13) 

Session A - July 6 – July 17
Session B - July 20 – July 31
Session C – August 3 – August 14

Extended Care

Each session of these summer programs runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 
Before-Care is 7:30-9:00am (weekly cost is $30)
After-Care is 3:00-5:30pm (weekly cost is $50)


Cost of ZooCamp is based on a sliding scale of annual income. Levels 1 and 2 of payment are required to send some income information to Zoo New England to confirm their status and payment.  Level 3 of payment does not require any information provided. Before you begin registration, please read through our sliding scale informationSliding scale information is due by May 15, 2020.

Early-bird Pricing:

Please note: We are currently offering early-bird prices on all sessions until February 15, 2020. After this date, prices will increase by $50 for one-week sessions and by $100 for two-week sessions.


In addition to the sliding scale discount, we will offer a limited number of scholarships to cover the full or partial cost of ZooCamp for families this year. Applications will be reviewed and scholarships will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
