SONG-CRAFT: Weeklong Artist Development Workshops for Teens (Ages 13-18) - At Boston Public Library - Central Library in Copley Square

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 04/19/2024
Whether you're into beat-making, singing, writing lyrics or composition, this song-crafting workshop has something for you. Teens will work with local music producer Tony "Hamstank" Hamoui to learn everything required to be able to create full, original songs. First you'll focus on software and hardware mastery then use this mastery to craft songs. Along the way, we will be dissecting popular music and learning how to think like a producer. This program is open to all experience levels. The goal is first to familiarize teens with the Digital Audio Workstation (Logic Pro X) and the Apogee recording software, all available in the Lab.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

You will be able to understand:

  • The different windows and functions of Logic Pro X and how they work
  • The piano roll and how to record software instruments
  • How to prepare the vocal booth for recording, both physically and within the software
  • How to record and edit live audio
  • Signal flow and how to troubleshoot issues with the software and hardware

Then you will use the software and hardware to create a full song.
By the end of this intensive teens will be able to understand the different aspects of song creation, including:

  • Songwriting
  • Production
  • Recording
  • Editing
  • Mixing
  • Mastering
  • The tools to analyze and dissect popular music
  • How to collaborate with other producers
