AFRICAN DRUMMING & DANCE - At La Grua Center

Join Matthew Dean and Ashley Jones for traditional West African rhythms and dance. Every Tuesday night starting at 6 p.m. 6-7:30PM: BEGINNER DRUMMING No musical experience necessary! Learn traditional West African rhythms from Guinea, which have been played for hundreds of years. Instructor Matthew Dean will cover the bass, tone and slap techniques, which accommodate all levels of students. Elevate your energy level and begin to feel, see and hear the rhythms of life and nature.. We will play at an easy-going pace that encourages laughter! All levels are welcome as everyone can learn from playing djembe. 7:30-9PM: BEGINNER DANCE Come experience the energy of traditional dance and percussion from the country of Guinea, West Africa. Ashley will guide you through a full body warm up, across the floor exercises and break down of a traditional dance. Classes are accompanied by live percussion with Matt Dean. Ashley will share the names, regions, tribes and meaning of the dances she teaches. Get ready to let loose and have some fun, while getting a great workout! Please come wearing comfortable clothing. All ages and levels welcome.
